Excellent source of Vitamin C, E and maganese and a good source of Vitamin A. Blueberry is a natural and rich source of antioxidants. Blue berry antioxidants include flavonoids (catechin, epicatechin), anthocyanin (gives the blue pigment to the fruit), beta-carotene, phenolic compounds and ellagic acid (ellagitannin). It is also a good source of dietary fiber.
Blueberries are among the fruits with the highest antioxidant activity. Using a test called ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity), researchers have shown that a serving of fresh blueberries provides more antioxidant activity than many other fresh fruits and vegetables.
